A bamboo matcha whisk — known traditionally as a chasen — is the essential tool for preparing smooth, frothy matcha. The fine bamboo tines break up clumps and incorporate air into the matcha as you whisk, creating the creamy texture and froth that defines a well-prepared bowl. No other tool replicates this result.

How to use: Rinse your matcha bowl with hot water to pre-warm it, then pour the water out. Sift 2g of matcha into the bowl, add water heated to around 175–185°F, and whisk in a brisk back-and-forth "W" motion until the matcha is fully dissolved and frothy. Rinse the whisk immediately after use and allow to air dry — never leave it submerged.

Matthew ★★★★★

The tines on this one are fine enough that my matcha comes out genuinely frothy instead of clumpy, even when I'm rushing. It takes a bit more wrist work than I expected, but the bamboo feels sturdy and rinses clean in seconds.

Kevin ★★★★★

Wasn't sure I needed a whisk until I saw how clumpy my matcha got with just a spoon. The fine bamboo tines break everything up in about 20 seconds and the froth actually holds. Rinsing it under warm water is all the cleanup it needs.

Stella K. ★★★★★

First time using a bamboo chasen instead of a cheap electric frother and the difference is real — my matcha came out smooth with zero clumps after about twenty seconds of whisking. The fine tines incorporate air nicely, giving a proper frothy layer on top.
