Darjeeling Shanti Hathi

Darjeeling Shanti Hathi - Main image
$5.42 $10.85 In stock

Darjeeling Shanti Hathi is an Indian black tea. It brings brisk high notes and smooth undertones. Front flavors include hints of sweet. The finish is wispy and delicate, and ends on the classic Darjeeling muscatel taste. This black tea is named Shanti Hathi, or Peaceful Elephant, because the estate replanted several acres into elephant habitat. Much of the Asian Elephant's habitat is either fragmented or taken up by human activity. This leaves elephants with little or no habitat. However, elephants are able to safely pass through, and stay if they wish, at Nuxalbari Tea Estate.

Nuxalbari Tea Estate

lies in the Darjeeling District located at the foothills of the Himalaya. Images of world renown peaks and challenges come hand in hand with the Himalaya. However, our intent is that you think about the obstacles the elephant faces while drinking this tea. We hope that by sourcing tea from Nuxalbari, they are in turn able to continue to help the Asian Elephant find respite and safe passage at the tea estate. Sip this lovely, warm cup of tea as you plan your day. Darjeeling Shanti Hathi is a perfect cup for the morning, and as an afternoon pick-me-up. Shanti Hathi carries the

That first sip is the giveaway — the brisk, sharp top notes hit right away, but it softens into that smooth, almost sweet undertone before the wispy finish fades. It's the kind of cup that makes you slow down and actually taste it. I'm already reaching for a second steep.

I brewed this up this morning and that brisk, sweet front note hit exactly as described—it’s got a real snap to it that wakes you up. The finish stays delicate, not astringent, which is rare for me at this price. Gone in three steeps too quickly, but each cup was lovely.

The finish really is as wispy as described—it lingers just a moment then fades cleanly, which makes each cup feel lighter than expected. That classic Darjeeling high note stays crisp without any harsh bite, even as it cools. I've already gone through half the pouch in a week.
